Whine and Wine Wednesday

Marathon Training Week 15 = SUCK!

We have had a horrible week.  Since there is about to be a bitch fest, let me get straight to the whining.

WHINE:

Randee's decided she is never running again.
Here is the damn book she wrote on facebook...
hmm, toe nails falling off, black toe nails, swollen feet, knees hurt, 5hrs out of my weekends plus take care of 3&5 yr old, clean house and i could go on and on. PLUS, bacteria infection all over my stomach from SWEAT!!! Wonder why I want to be done. I am ready to feel and look like a lady again! 5 miles is all i want to do to catch the runner's high and feel the energy from a good run. that many miles you just don't feel good and i'm OVER IT!! i'll finish this shit but i have lost all motivation. angie needs more advice to put up with me than i need advice to finish! she is in for a long 1.5 months!
Somewhere along the way we went from...

THIS.....Enjoying running
to THIS...not enjoying running.
There are several factors.  TEXAS SUMMER is one of the huge ones.  INCREASED MILEAGE is another issue.  No one EVER said training for a marathon was easy.  If it were easy EVERYONE could and would do it.  It's damn hard.  It takes dedication.  It takes determination.  It takes a lot of time.  It takes a lot of sweat.  It takes a lot of toenails.

But dammit, we have come way too far to quit now!
And half of finishing a marathon is winning the mental game.

So, it's time to channel our inner Richard Simmons and find our "CAN DO" attitude.
We have to turn our frowns upside down!
Get a little crazy.
And enjoy the journey!
WINE:

I've been sippin' on some Red Guitar Tempranillo all week.
Looks like Riesling is all that's left in the "purple zone" for tonight.  Since I am about to clean like a crazy woman, I'm thinking chilled Riesling will taste mighty good later this evening!

I leave tomorrow for Park City, Utah.

I'm not sure I even know how to pack for temps like this.
Leave some words of wisdom to help get us back on the right track for marathon training!  Week 16 needs to ROCK!

Whine and Wine Wednesday

Marathon Training Week 4 - Day 3

Four hill repeats was the goal for today.  It was hot and humid, as usual.

Randee was rockin' the compression tights, trying to keep the hamstring from barkin'.

This is my 'I'm finding it hard to breath and all I did was walk outside" face.  Attractive don't you think?
We ran a warm up mile at a 10:30 pace.  Then we ran our 4 hill repeats as fast as our hot, sweaty legs would let us.

Hill 1 - 7:08 pace

Hill 2 - 6:48 pace

Hill 3 - 7:19 pace

Hill 4 - 7:05 pace

Now moving on to the good stuff....

WHINE

I'm to tired to whine this week.....but I don't want to let Duane down, so I'll find something to whine about.

Randee is at the Chiropractor as I type to see what is up with her foot, calf and hammy.  NO!  She can't get hurt.  I seriously don't know what I would do if I thought I had to train for a marathon alone!  So, hopefully she won't give me anything to whine about.

I'm sure this will be a regular whine for a while, but the heat and humidity are already horrible and horrendous!  Breathing and running at the same time lately has been nearly impossible.  Sweat is pouring from places I didn't even know existed on my body.  Lord help us.  It's not even officially summer yet!

I'm on a roll now.  Let's see what else I can find to whine about.  My house is a mess.  My life is crazy busy times ten right now.  Blah, blah, blah.

Alright, enough of that.

WINE

Oh my!  The purple section of the wine cellar is almost empty.

For those of you new to the blog, this is our wine cellar.  I'm only allowed to grab wine from the "purple section."  Look real hard.  See that tiny section outlined in purple?  The rest is "special" wine and and off limits.....to me!
The purple section was well stocked a few days ago.  But it is a possibility that over the long Memorial Day weekend several bottles were consumed with friends.  Anywho, today there were only two bottles in my section....of the same wine.  So, I guess I'm having this.

But it's a Tempranillo....my favorite....so it will work just fine!
Tonight I'm drinking to celebrate

Why do you run?

Not really.  I run for many reason.  Sanity.  Vanity.  Stress Relief.  Girl Time.

Happy Whine and Wine Wednesday!

Whine and Wine Wednesday

Marathon Training Week 3 - Day 3

Today was supposed to be 800 repeats.  It did not happen.  See whine below.

Whine:

This week has been "A WEEK."  Lots of drama, and I don't like drama.

Monday afternoon I was tired and cranky all day.  Some might have called me a bitch on wheels.  It was bad.  After work I thought a glass of wine might simmer me down....even though I said I would not drink on Mondays.  Well, I should have adhered to my plan.

Lets just say I took a sip of wine.  Fell asleep on the couch holding the wine glass.  Woke up to a loud noise.  Stood up quickly and....

The wine and the glass went flying.
For the rest of the night I pouted and laid on the couch.  Oh yes, and caught up on Biggest Loser via Hulu.com.

Then came Tuesday.  The day was uneventful, but the evening was drama city.  I had to go back to work at 6pm, just as crazy storms were moving in.

The clouds started looking like this.

Then the baseball size hail started falling.

Tornado sirens were going off all over the metroplex.
When I went outside to leave work I found my car's back window was smashed all to hell from the hail.  We waited around at work for about an hour and then finally got the word, if we wanted to dart for home we had a small chance before another line of storms moved in.

At the exact same moment I got on the road, Doug was watching possible rotation over our house.  He was freaking out I was driving home.

Then going down the highway, my back window blew completely out.  Freaked me out!  Rain and small hail was coming into the backseat.

I made it home safe and sound, and found this....

The family hunkered down in the bathroom.
I will need a new front windshield and back window.  There is some body damage and backseat damage due to water and glass.
However, the family was all safe and that is all that really matters!

One last whine:  I'm losing the contest.

You could improve my mood by voting here!

Alright, I'm tired of whining.  Let's get to the good part!

Wine!

Tonight I am having Senda 66 Tempranillo.  This is our third bottle, and the best by far.  The first two did not impress.  However, I"m not sure it would take much tonight to make me happy!

Cheers!
A couple of other things to make you go Hmmm....

I had this salad from Urban Eatery for lunch today and it rocked my socks off.  Very good!
And I woke up to find this....

My weight is down 1.7 pounds.  I'll take it.
Happy Wine and Whine Wednesday!

Whine and Wine Wednesday!

Marathon Training Week 2 - Day 3

Wednesday's are our speed days.  Today we were supposed to do a 30 minute tempo run.

Hands on hip girl...again.  I gotta come up with a new pose.

I've been up all night with a sick child.  Do I look like I'm in the mood to run?
Randee did not get much sleep.  She also was having a bit of a hamstring issue.  Our goal was a 15 minute warm up going from 11:00 to 10:00ish pace.  Then we would do 10 minutes at 9:00, and finish with a 5 minute cool down back to 11:00 pace.

We did our 15 minutes averaging 10:30ish and then did 8 minute of a 9:00 pace.  Then Randee's leg started hurting worse so we called it a day.  We did a warm up lap before starting the time and then a cool down walk.  All together we did right around 3 miles.

Moving on...

You know what today is?

It's Duane's favorite day of the week!
Whine and Wine Wednesday!

Whine:

You're not going to believe this...but I really can't think of anything to whine about today.  Very odd.  This week is flying by.  The weather has been amazing.  I have several new blog followers.  It's just a good week to be me!

Oh yes, and I'm pretty sure the Food Network is about to contact me about hosting my own Bitchy Cooking show.

This was last nights dinner.
What, you don't eat dinner with chopsticks on the couch?
Okay, since I'm fresh out of whines...let's move onto the good stuff!

Wine!

Last night went down a little like this...

Doug brought out the good Tempranillo from the wine cellar.
I begged him not to do it.  It's Tuesday....I can't drink on Tuesday!

I begged him to wait until Wednesday to drink the wine.
But I'm sad to admit that with very little effort this happened....

My 9 year old daughter opened the wine.  (Is it normal for a 9 year old to know how to use a waiter's corkscrew?)

And I had Whine and Wine Tuesday.
So, I will be skipping the wine tonight.  But last night was a GORGEOUS night in Texas.

We set outside and sipped wine and looked at the moon.
Cutest. Couple. Ever.
Oh yes, and I laughed a lot at myself.

Trying to get the perfect sad face proved to be comical.
So, no whine or wine for this Wednesday.  Just imagine me with one of those sad faces right about now.

Pitiful, shameless, no good begging:  Did you vote today?  We have falling out of the top 25!  HELP!

If not, just click here.  Thanks!

An Unusually Unbitchy Post...What's Up With That?

This weekend I have began my healthy eating plan.  It's not really a detailed plan, just a conscious decision to try and eat as much fresh and healthy foods as possible.  From my reading materials...

Remember my stack of books I purchased a few weeks ago?
...and from some of my favorite nutrition blogs...

Like Cotter Crunch
...I have gathered some great nutritional advice, both for marathon training and eating gluten free.

Here is a sampling of what I have been chowing on this weekend.

Greek yogurt with granola and fresh strawberries and blueberries.
I'm not a huge fan of Greek yogurt, but I'm trying to acquire a taste.  It's a bit bitter to me.  But I totally love everything else in this bowl!

By the way, the weather has been fan-FREAKIN'-tastic this weekend.  I have enjoyed multiple meals out by the pool!

Doing lazy things like reading "Better Homes then Yours," (as Doug refers to it).
I had some flank steak in the refrigerator that I HAD to cook or it was going to go bad.  I cooked it in my griddle skillet with Pam olive oil and it was not bad.

Flank steak with salsa and veggies and hummus.
I was going to a girly party on Saturday night, so I ate this before I went.  This kept me from thinking I was starving to death.  I did much on a few unhealthy Fritos, but otherwise controlled myself.

At the party we played games using items such as bananas, condoms, whipped cream and cherries.  This is the only picture you get from the night!  Use your imagination on the rest.
I spent too much time on Sunday trying to decide how to remodel my kitchen cabinets.  Any ideas?
Then I made some super yummy dinner.  It was 4:00pm, but we still called it dinner.  I was hungry.

Sliced chicken breast tossed with olive oil and taco seasoning.
Audrie makes some mean guacamole.
I sauted onions and cut up fresh tomatoes and cilantro.

These were the toppings for our soft tacos.
We piled all the goods on corn tortillas.  It was OMG good!
I know, I know.  I said wine only on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.  I have decided that I will add Sunday to the list.  With warm weather, the pool and summer....I have to have wine on Sunday.

Audrie agreed it was the best soft taco. Ever.

Marathon training week 2 starts tomorrow.  This next week you can look forward to me finally doing a book review for 'The Non Runner's Marathon Guide for Women'...I hope.  And....drum roll please....a guest blog.....

From Ms. Diva Runner herself...Talia.
I'm super excited to see what she has to say!  I'm sure she will share some great tips on running in full makeup and reapplying lip gloss on the run.  Oh yes, and how NOT to sweat.

Alright, this post has been way to positive.  It's time for me to go find something to bitch about.

Don't forget to vote for us in the top 25 Heath and Fitness Mom Blogs contest. There has to be at least one blog in the top 25 with the word Bitchy in the name!  Just use the link on the top right.  Thanks!

Happy Sunday!
